Finn’s Story | Young Volunteer’s Bake Sale Supports Families Impacted by Cancer at Gilda’s Club Kentuckiana
A School Assignment That Sparked Community Kindness
At just 10 years old, Finn already understands something many adults spend a lifetime learning: small acts of kindness can make a significant impact.
This spring, during National Cancer Research Month, Finn and his mother Tiffany visited Gilda’s Club Kentuckiana’s Grinstead Drive Clubhouse to deliver a heartfelt donation raised through a neighborhood bake sale.
The project began as an assignment at Kentucky Country Day School, where students were challenged to do something kind for their community. Finn and his friend Dinesh immediately knew they wanted to support people affected by cancer.
Why Finn Chose to Support Families Impacted by Cancer
“Cancer affects the lives of so many people every day,” Finn shared.
According to the American Association for Cancer Research, more than 18 million people in the United States are currently living with, through, and beyond cancer. Gilda’s Club offers a free program of cancer support for each of those situations.
A Neighborhood Bake Sale with a Big Mission

To raise funds, Finn created a bake sale featuring his signature treat: Rice Krispie bars made extra colorful — and extra delicious — with Fruity Pebbles cereal. With help from his sister Owlsley, the team set up a neighborhood stand and waited for customers to stop by.
“The most enjoyable part was collecting donations,” Finn said. “The hardest part was waiting for people to stop by our bake sale.”
Understanding the Importance of Emotional Support During Cancer
Finn’s compassion is especially inspiring because of his thoughtful understanding of the cancer journey and the importance of emotional support services. Although his parents are both surgeons and science is his favorite subject, Finn recognized that healing involves much more than medicine alone.
“I chose to donate to Gilda’s Club because it is a hidden gem,’” he explained. “Gilda’s Club doesn’t get as much recognition as the hospitals but does way more to support survivors of cancer.”
